TORONTO, ON – A prominent social justice activist has announced she will no longer use Facebook and Instagram due to the social network’s highly polarizing nature and lackluster response to criticisms regarding racial issues.

Lilly Chesterfield, who News Default Swap readers may remember, explains that she cannot support an organization which does so little to support broader social issues.

“I cannot continue to support a company that gives a platform to so much hate speech,” explained Chesterfield.

“Their actions, or noticeable lack of action, speaks to their values and I don't support them. I only want to use a much more inclusive, equal and just social media platform."

Chesterfield made this announcement to her two dozen followers on a video posted to TikTok. She continued on by also taking a stand against the social network’s use of consumer data.

“I’m not going to stand idly by while my data is used to profit the most privileged in our society. I implore all my followers to know where your data is going at all times,” explained Chesterfield in her TikTok post.

The Beijing-based internet technology company has benefited from a lack of awareness from socially conscious, yet geo-politically illiterate activists.
