CINCINNATI , OH – A lawsuit has been brought against consumer product giant Proctor & Gamble Company alleging discrimination in the instructions for one of the company’s leading brands – Tide laundry detergent.
The lawsuit alleges racial discrimination due to the “overt attempt to segregate according to color.” The lawsuit references the line “…sort laundry according to color, separating lights from darks” which appears on the company’s how to wash your clothes section of the website.
“It’s 2020, we are in a post-racial world, whether that means people or inanimate objects,” said Lilly Chesterfield, a leading social justice activist.
Lilly Chesterfield is also the same activist leading a crusade against discriminatory hiring practices.
A group of plaintiffs is bringing a novel argument to the courts as part of this discrimination lawsuit. The group is planning to argue that personification of clothing as a distinct attribute of one’s identity is protected under the law.
“What you wear is a fundamental characteristic of your identity and we must stop all forms of reverse-objectification,” continued Chesterfield.
The trial is expected to get underway in late spring and we will monitor the case as it makes its way through the courts.
