EDMONTON, AB – As oil prices tanked around the globe after a dispute between Russia and Saudi Arabia flooded the world with supply, energy industry workers in Alberta are feeling the punch.

With WTI and WCS nearing all time lows, producers in Alberta have scaled back operations and drastically reduced capital investment spending.

Although oil and gas workers throughout the province are upset over the price war and resulting impact on employment, as consumers these workers are pleasantly surprised at the pumps.

“I never thought about spending $200 filling up my super loaded Chevy Silverado 3500 HD with lift kit because I was making close to three grand a week,” said Dallas Rogers, a former oil and gas employee.

Mr. Rogers now has an 'apoplectic appreciation' for the low price of fuel in the province.

“I’m pissed that I can’t work right now but I will admit it’s nice not spending so much money on gas,” continued Rogers.

Like many former colleagues, Dallas Rogers saved very little of his $3,000 per week in income and is now on EI.
