OTTAWA, ON – The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is expanding their scope to include regulating content of volunteer elementary school drama productions.

The CRTC is expected to announce that parents who record artistic events, and intend to view those artistic events on any device, must register with the CRTC.

Additionally, the CRTC will impose mandatory guidelines for content which must meet specific criteria pertaining to language, religion and culture.

The regulated content also applies to amateur sporting events and children’s birthday party videos.

“I can’t sleep at night knowing a 36-year-old single mother in Red Deer shares unregulated digital footage of her daughter’s dance recital,” explained Steven Harroun, Chief Compliance and Enforcement Officer with the CRTC.

The risks of the new mandate eventually being overturned are expected to be minor as sources indicate that the Prime Minister has already negotiated with the Supreme Court for a favourable ruling.

Richard Wagner, Justin Trudeau's Supreme Court appointee, reportedly struck a deal behind closed doors with CRTC officials including the Minister of Canadian Heritage Steven Guilbeault.

Sources inside the Supreme Court robe laundry staff report that terms of the deal include SCC backing for the CRTC power grab in exchange for more mandatory prime time airing of SCC hearings on all television networks in Canada.
