NEW YORK, NY – As protests continue across the entire United States and around the world, corporate PR teams have been mobilizing in an attempt to add to the societal dialogue.
Many businesses fear that by saying nothing at all, they will be perceived as complicit in accepting racial inequality.
This has led to nearly every company issuing statements regarding the current protests and broader racial inequality.
This has also meant a substantial volume of urgent work for communications and crisis management consultants.
“The key to a great statement during this time is to be as vague as possible while plugging in as many buzz words as can fit on one page,” explained a communications consultant who asked we refrain from publishing her name.
The consultant emphasises that companies must address anonymous people on social media platforms who call them out for saying nothing. But she warns that companies must be careful in their response.
“I can’t stress this last point enough, no matter what you put on paper, do not include any tangible action items that can be tracked or analyzed in any way.”
Communications teams are also advised to draft an apology statement to send out in response for the first message they release to the public.
