Analyst puts emphasis on ‘T’ in EBITDA, quietly mocked by colleagues

OTTAWA, ON – A data analyst at an Ottawa capital markets group was mocked by colleagues when he said the acronym “EBITDA,” except in a bizarre twist, adding an emphasis on the letter ‘T’.


The debate into the correct pronunciation of the acronym for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization has plagued workplaces around the world for generations.


“Typically, you’ll meet someone who puts way too much emphasis on the ‘E’ and occasionally someone with a fascination of a long, hard D,” stated one of the employees. “But to enunciate a hard ‘T’, who the fuck does that?”

Colleagues of the poorly pronounced employee often reference the emphasized 'T' in other words and acronyms.
